Fire Below: A War of Words

By Owen McCafferty

Directed By Jimmy Fay

'Fire Below: A War of Words' is a play about two couples, one catholic once protestant, who are neighbours. Each year on the eleventh night the couples get together for a drink to watch the bonfires in the estate down below. The piece is about the middle class views of the Northern Ireland troubles, and as the evening continues and the wine flows, the true feelings of each person begin to come out.  Paula was the stage designer for this performance. The design for this piece was the illusion of back garden deck, with a mirrored background. The stage was designed to look like it was suspended and isolated, with the mirrors giving a reflective quality showing that the words spoken in the performance were reflective  of views still present in Northern Ireland today.
